Since the end of 2018, two new buildings have been under construction on the grounds of the Technical University of Berlin – the Interdisciplinary Center for Modeling and Simulation, or IMoS for short, and the new mathematics building. While the IMoS is intended for research, the mathematics building was designed primarily for students. Lecture halls, cafeterias, seminar rooms, and a learning center are planned. Together, both buildings will offer a total usable area of 20,200 m² upon completion.
Extensive planning in advanceThese extensive dimensions posed major challenges for the planning process. The commissioned planning office CSZ Cornelius-Schwarz-Zeitler therefore turned to EFB-Elektronik for questions regarding structured cabling. EFB-Elektronik not only offers extensive information material for the preparation of tender documents, but also advises planners personally. In close cooperation with technical support, the documents for the Europe-wide tenders for both construction projects were completed.

High-performance partners implement large-scale projectOur INFRALAN® partner SBS GmbH from Borkheide has been commissioned to carry out the installation. “With EFB-Elektronik, we have a capable partner at our side who can provide these large volumes and thus give us the necessary security in the project,” says André Günther, project manager at SBS GmbH. The number of components that went into both construction projects until completion illustrates the magnitude of the challenges. In total, the permanently installed copper cabling consists of 165 km of INFRALAN® installation cable. These cables are terminated by 4,200 keystone modules. The pluggable cabling comprises 2,200 Cat.6A patch cables with individual labeling. More than 30 partially enclosed server cabinets from the “PRO” and “EFB-Server” series, in which 97 19" patch panels were installed, serve as nodes. Good communication between the project partners is essential in order not to lose track of such a large project. SBS GmbH and EFB-Elektronik worked closely together to implement the building cabling in accordance with the high requirements. The results are impressive. The IMoS has been completed and will soon be operational. The mathematics building is scheduled for completion in March 2026. |
